The Titans owner and coach are hoping to make a deal with the Seattle Seahawks for defensive end Justin Houston before the start of free agency.
“We’re just trying to make it as soon as possible.
We’re going to try to be there for him,” Titans owner Amy Adams Cobb told reporters Monday.
Houston is one of the most valuable players on the roster.
He has four sacks and three forced fumbles this season, and has three more sacks this year.
“I think if he can play, he could be a real good player.
If he can get back on the field, he would be a very good player,” Cobb said.
“So we’re not going to rush it.
I think that’s all we’re going through right now.”
Houston will likely be eligible to become a free agent at season’s end, but it’s unlikely he will re-sign with the Titans.
He is scheduled to make $7 million in 2018, and the Titans are not guaranteed $7.5 million in 2017.
“They’ve got some very talented players and they’re not done yet,” Cobb added.
“There’s a lot of time left to figure it out.
We’ll see how that goes.”
The Titans are hoping they can find a trade partner who can sign Houston and get him a deal that would allow him to re-join the team.
“It’s just going to take some time,” Cobb told NFL Network.
“But hopefully we can find some way.”
